Amazon.com Review The Greatest Salesman in the World is a tiny book, and it is a treasure. First published in 1968, Og Mandino's classic remains an invaluable guide to a philosophy of salesmanship. Mandino's clear, simple writing style supports his purpose: to make the principles of sales known to a wide audience. A parable set in the time just prior to Christianity, The Greatest Salesman in the World weaves mythology with spirituality into a much needed message of inspiration in this culture of self-promotion. Mandino believes that to be a good salesperson, you must believe in yourself and the work you are doing. It is a simple but profound spiritual philosophy about how to succeed in the world's marketplace, easily understood and easy to take to heart. --Jodie Buller Read more Review âThe Greatest Salesman in the World is one of the most inspiring, uplifting, and motivating books I have ever read. I can well understand why it has had such a splendid acc eptance.ââ"Norman Vincent Peale  âAt last! A book on sales and salesmanship that can be read and enjoyed by veteran and recruit alike! I have just completed The Greatest Salesman in the World for the second timeâ"it was too good for just one readingâ"and in all sincerity, I say that it is the most readable, most constructive and most useful instrument for the teaching of sales as a profession that I have ever read.ââ"F.W. Errigo, Manager, U. S. Sales Trainer at Parke, Davis & Company  âI have read almost every book that has ever been written on salesmanship, but I think Og Mandino has captured all of them in The Greatest Salesman in the World. No one who follows these principles will ever fail as a salesman, and no one will ever be truly great without them; but, the author has done more than present the principlesâ"he has woven them into the fabric of one of the most fascinating stories I have ever read.ââ"Paul J. Meyer, President of Success Moti vation Institute, Inc.  âEvery sales manager should read The Greatest Salesman in the World. It is a book to keep at the bedside, or on the living room tableâ"a book to dip into as needed, to browse in now and then, to enjoy in small stimulating portions. It is a book for the hours and for the years, a book to turn to over and over again, as to a friend, a book of moral, spiritual and ethical guidance, an unfailing source of comfort and inspiration.ââ"Lester J. Bradshaw, Jr., Former Dean, Dale Carnegie Institute of Effective Speaking & Human Relations  âI was overwhelmed by The Greatest Salesman in the World. It is, without doubt, the greatest and the most touching story I have ever read. It is so good that there are two musts that I would attach to it: First, you must not lay it down until you have finished it; and secondly, every individual who sells anything, and that includes us all, must read it.ââ"Robert B. Hensley, President, Life Insurance Co. of Kentucky  âOg Mandino provocatively prods your attention into fascination as he masterfully relates his story. The Greatest Salesman in the World is a book with emotional appeal for millions.ââ"Roy Garn, Executive Director, Emotional Appeal Institute  âThere are very few men who have the writing talent with which Og Mandino has been blessed. The thoughts contained in this book symbolize the importance of selling to the entire worldâs existence.ââ"Sol Polk, President, Polk Bros., Inc.  âI have just finished the uninterrupted reading of The Greatest Salesman in the World. The plot is original and ingenious. The style is interesting and fascinating. The message is moving and inspiring. Everyone of us is a salesman, no matter what his occupation or profession. Most of all, first he must sell himself to himself in order to find personal happiness and peace of mind. This book, if carefully read, absorbed and heeded, can help every one of us to be h is best salesman.ââ"Dr. Louis Binstock, Rabbi, Temple Sholom, Chicago  âI like the story . . . I first read this when I was in 6th grade. My Dad gave me the book. Although I didn't read it on schedule like it says, I did make an attempt even back then and I really believe it made a big difference in how I interact with customers and people in general today. I've had a number of different employers over the years tell me that my customer service skills are excellent and seem ingrained in my psyche. Customer service is not something that everyone is good at, but the core skills of patience, listening, controlling emotion, laughing at ridiculous and rude customers (not in front of them obviously), are all traits that can be attributed back to what the scrolls teach and are traits that are common among people who have good customer service skills. Two scrolls in particular really have helped me over the years, Greet this day with love in your heart and If you persist you will succeed. Greeting people with love has helped me tremendously in dealing with crabby, unruly customers. When I say I love you, in my head, even though sometimes it is hard to do, it keeps me grounded and able to listen to the rants of the customer but not take them personally and also helps me to look at the situation from their side.My father used to buy this book by the case load (he literally bought over 20 cases) and hand them out to people telling them that if they read the book and follow the scrolls that their life will be changed forever. The repetition in reading the scrolls is key. I've read them so many times now that the principals just come naturally now and I find myself automatically responding to situations almost exactly like the scrolls say. Some people say that they don't work in the sales field and so the book isn't relevant. In my opinion, this book is relevant to everyone, regardless of your career. Practically every situation, work, family, friends, etc you are selling something. Whether it's selling an idea, convincing a friend, spouse or child to do som ething, negotiating, interviewing for a job, etc. This is a book on how to live your life in general, not just how to be a better salesman. You will not regret buying this book even if you just read it once. BUT if you can find the time and make it a habit to read the book as it instructs, your life will be changed forever. In My Opinion this is on of the "Greatest books in the world". It succinctly organizes some of the most potent life changing principles into a small, compact package that is also fun to read. with the gloat of self help and Success books out there, this one still stands on it's own. If I were to have to pick one book to recommend for someone looking to change their life, I would recommend this one, and simply tell them to replace "Salesman" with "life".This is not a book about sales to be honest (though it's principles will help you if that is your chosen career). It's a book about how the human experience unfolds, and what you can do to impact it. As the old saying goes, "My son, pay attention to my words....keep them in the midst of your heart". There is no better way to change whats in your heart then the principles he utilizes in this book. apply those to life (or whatever your trying to achieve), and you'll do better. It's as simply as that.
